One hundred of the merchant industry’s top influencers are called upon to play a key role in advancing the merchant profession.
After being named members of the Institute of Builders Merchants (FIOBM) at a gala dinner to celebrate their contribution to the industry, they were invited to join a new mentorship platform and help others shape their career.
The dinner, which took place at The Belfry (Sutton Coldfield) on May 19, was the culmination of a campaign organized by the BMF and BMN to name the Top 100 Influential Merchants. The event raised £8,500 for BMF partner charity Band of Builders.
The new IOBM Mentoring Platform has been designed to facilitate the mentor-mentee relationship, by enabling access to industry resources and suggesting suitable matches. The simple, easy-to-use platform is open to all levels of IOBM membership, from students to fellows and corporate members.
The online mentoring arrangement will allow both mentor and mentee to share or gain a wealth of knowledge and support the individual advancement of new and diverse talent working in or joining the industry.
John Newcomb, CEO of the Builders Merchants Federation, behind the list of top influencers, said: “The skills, knowledge and experience of this vast group, made up of some of the most experienced people working in merchant industry, will be invaluable to the mentorship program.
“I am delighted to see IOBM launching this initiative to support young colleagues, help them deepen their knowledge and advance their careers.”
