Metal supergroup BPMD shared their cover of the Grand Funk Railroad classic “We’re An American Band”. The track is from their upcoming feature debut.
The band includes Bobby Blitz (Overkill) on vocals, drummer Mike Portnoy (The Winery Dogs, Sons of Apollo), bassist Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance) and guitarist Phil Demmel (Vio-lence, ex-Machine Head).
They will release their debut album, “American Made”, this Friday June 12th, which will feature their interpretation of a number of classic rock anthems from the 1970s.
Menghi had this to say about his version of the Grand Funk Railroad classic: “The purpose of American Made was, and is, to pay homage to some of the great music of the 70s, especially American music of the 70s. We love music from all over the world; England, Germany, Brazil, Canada, Australia etc … but at the end of the day we are an American band so it made sense to pay homage to one of the greatest American bands of the 70s by covering one of the greatest songs of this decade by the mighty Grand Funk.
“Since this song was originally written to be on tour, we remember the days we were on the road and how much we miss our fans! The tour is the lifeblood of most bands – we have looking forward to doing shows and playing those BPMD tunes, and seeing the music blossom once again in a live setting. “
Frontman Bobby Blitz added, “‘American Band’, in my opinion, was the icing on the cake of this project. The idea of American Made, the ’70s demanded it. The song was iconic then and really did. Withstood the test of time. The call and response between my voice and Phil’s guitar on the outro makes the track even more special. ” Check out the song and song list below:
