When you think of the champions of the music scene, you think of people like Chewy Hemphill. Often without fanfare (although there are songs about him), the Bay Area promoter brings his favorite punk band to town for all his friends and their friends to enjoy too.
Next week, he’s continuing his long tradition of not only bringing punk-rock bands from around the world to Tampa Bay, but also giving said bands another opportunity to earn some cash while they’re in the game. Sunshine State for Gainesville’s annual punk-rock bacchanal. Party.
This year, Hemphill has bands from the Netherlands (Lone Wolf), Croatia (Trophy Jump, pictured and streamed below), Italy (Menagramo, I Like Allie) and Chile (Talking Props) joining in other outfits from around the country, plus a handful of beloved local artists for Tampa’s Pre-Fest 666 punk-rock festival at Hooch and Hive, taking place Wednesday-Thursday, October 26-27.
In total, nearly two dozen bands will take the stage as part of the show where proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 48 hours is required.
“As an alternative, you may voluntarily submit proof of full vaccination for entry,” Hemphill wrote. “Masks encouraged. Your vaxx card photo is correct.”
