‘The Birth of Punk Rock in NYC’ hits theaters this summer (see trailer)

NYC’s quirky punk scene gets the documentary treatment. Directed by Danny Garcia, Nightclub: the birth of punk rock in New York tells the story of the mythical club Max’s Kansas City, where, alongside CBGB, New York punk was born.

Nightclub features rare performance footage of Iggy and the Stooges, New York Dolls, Sid Vicious and Wayne/Jayne County as well as classic performances of Johnny Thunders/Heartbreakersand unique archive footage and exclusive interviews with Alice Cooper, Jayne County, Billy Idol, Steve Stevensmusic journalist/guitarist of the Patti Smith Band Lenny Kayelate New York Dolls guitarist Sylvain Sylvainwarhol muse Penny Arcade and Ruby Lynn Reyner, Alan Vega from Suicide, Bad Brains HR and Dr. Know, Denise Mercedes from Pacers, Nick Marden (and their then 12-year-old drummer, future Cro-Mag Harley Flanagan), Jay Jay French from Twisted Sister, Jesse Malin from D Generation, Frank Infante from Blondie, Jimmy Zero from Dead BoysStiv Bators girlfriend Cynthia Ross, Mickey Leigh, Phil Caivano from Shrapnel/Monster Magnetfounder of Punk Magazine and illustrator of Ramones album covers John Holmstrom, Louis X. The documentary will be screened on a tour around the world, including North American dates this summer that will pair it with “Sid: The Final Curtain,” a short documentary about Sid Vicious’ last show. The premiere in New York takes place July 20 at Joe’s Pub. All dates are listed below.
